Why The Name 'Tennis Necklace'?
Tennis necklaces are named because jewellery designers had created a necklace style to match the tennis bracelets. It was pretty much inevitable. However, until Chris Evert popularised tennis bracelets in the 1987 US Open Championships, these bracelets and accompanying necklaces in the same style were called line bracelets and line necklaces. The style had initially become popular during the art deco era in the 1920s.
