Put An Eternity Ring On her Finger!

How To Choose The Right Style Of Ring

Your relationship with your girlfriend will, after some time, reach a point where you want to give her a ring to demonstrate your love. One way that you can do that is to give her an eternity ring. Sometimes men give eternity rings as an engagement or wedding ring, but there are other opportunities.

What Is An Eternity Ring?

An eternity ring is an ideal gift for couples who are already married who want to keep the flames of romance burning high and hot. A diamond eternity ring is perfect for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries or even Valentine's Day. However, although eternity rings are rapidly increasing in popularity, choosing the perfect eternity ring for your partner can still be something of a challenge.

Eternity rings are a form of the wedding band, a custom dating six millennia ago to ancient Egypt. In later centuries wedding bands became decorated with a continuous circle of precious stones, often including diamonds. This style was rooted in ideas about lasting, lifelong commitment - an eternity as far as humans are concerned.

Historically eternity rings were given to married couples to mark a special anniversary. Still, these days the custom has broadened considerably hence their use on other gift-giving occasions. At the same time, we are starting to see eternity rings used more often as wedding or engagement rings. We might be seeing the end of the undecorated gold wedding band, replaced by diamond eternity rings, often stacked with a matching engagement ring.

In recent years, friends have started to buy eternity rings to signify the strength of their friendship. I wish I had friends so generous! They can also become treasured gifts for bridesmaids.

Although eternity rings were known to be given millennia ago, the first eternity rings in styles that we would recognise today date back to the 18th century when women started to wear what were called 'keeper' rings on either side of their wedding rings to protect and accentuate them.

Are There Other Times When Giving An Eternity Ring Is Appropriate?

Apart from between married couples on birthdays and anniversaries, eternity rings can be given as a push present to commemorate the birth of a child. The idea of push presents may seem relatively new. Still, just like the eternity ring, the practice dates back thousands of years in Indian culture.

Choose Your Eternity Ring Style

When you look for eternity rings, you will see there are quite a few distinct styles from which to choose. Some people like to give a ring decorated with a birthstone such as emerald, ruby or sapphire. Other people prefer to buy a diamond ring, perhaps accented by a birthstone. Of course, the choice is yours! However, suppose you are thinking of purchasing an eternity ring. In that case, it is helpful to know what to expect when you browse our eternity ring collection pages or check out the display cases of your local jeweller.

Half Or Full Eternity Rings

Historically, an eternity ring has gemstones running around the entire circumference of the band – this symbolises the eternity of love with the never-ending ring of diamonds. The problem is that symbolism does not always equal practicality! Some people find that diamonds around the whole of the ring can be uncomfortable as the gems can rub against the soft skin of the sides of the adjacent fingers. Also, there is a risk that gemstones may be damaged or lost from the bottom of the ring when objects are grasped, even with the best-made rings.

Similarly, damage can occur when the hands and fingers are set down onto surfaces. For that reason, many people choose a half eternity ring. In many cases, a half eternity ring will look very similar to a full eternity ring. Still, they are much more practical in real life, making it possible to wear a half eternity ring every day rather than just on special occasions.

Of course, a half eternity ring will tend to cost less than a similar full eternity ring as it will have fewer precious stones!

Whatever style you like, we probably have designs that will inspire you and help you choose the perfect ring! Here are six of our most popular eternity rings in different styles and price points. Don't forget; you can always chat with our diamond jewellery experts using the chat service at the bottom right of our web pages.

1)      Channel Set Half Eternity Ring

This ring is an excellent example of a half eternity ring. The diamonds are set into a channel in the white gold that gives perfect protection against the rigours of day to day life while having an elegant and stylish look. This is a very comfortable ring to wear with its smooth sides and rounded-off edges of its comfort fit shank.

2)      Channel Set Full Eternity Ring

This full eternity ring has diamonds set all around the band in a secure and elegant channel setting. The channel setting means that the diamonds do not protrude above the channel's top, making it a comfortable ring for daily wear. The channel setting protects the diamonds all around the ring. This is an example of a full eternity ring that will be as comfortable to wear as a half eternity ring. This ring is a real showstopper that is ideal for stacking with other rings.

3)      Sapphire And Diamond Half Eternity Ring

Handcrafted in 18K yellow gold, this is a fine example of a half eternity ring that uses sapphires along with the diamonds. Sapphire is the birthstone of people born in September. The channel setting keeps the gemstones secure, and the half- eternity style keeps the price down compared to a similar full-eternity ring.

4)      28 Diamond Full Eternity Ring

Here is a classic diamond full eternity ring with 28 brilliant-cut round diamonds set into platinum with claw settings. This is a gorgeous eternity ring best kept for special occasions. When you wear this ring, you will attract many compliments and, doubtless, questions about where you purchased such a stunning piece of fine diamond jewellery.

5)      13 Stone Diamond Half Eternity Ring

This eternity ring is something of a showstopper, yet with a minimalistic design. The band of this ring has an intricate engraving that calls attention to the pave set diamonds running around the top half of the white gold band. The extent of the diamonds gives the effect of the gemstones running the entire way around the circumference giving the best of all worlds to the fortunate wearer!

6)      17 Stone Full Eternity Ring

This is a showstopper example of a full eternity ring. Our designers have used prominent claw settings that give the ring a more comfortable surface when worn and still offers protection from damage. The round diamonds and the open claw setting will allow brilliant sparkles of light to shine from this ring. Nobody could fail to be impressed by this gorgeous eternity ring with its 4.0 carats of diamonds and the beautiful platinum setting.
